Archbishops of Westminster and Canterbury send messages of support to Gianna Jensen
The Archbishops of Westminster and Canterbury have each sent messages of support to Gianna Jensen, a 28-year-old American woman who survived an attempt by her mother to abort her. The Catholic and Anglican leaders say they hope her story will encourage Parliament to look again at abortion.
Gianna Jensen is speaking in Parliament at 6.30pm today in the Wilson Room in Portcullis House. The event is hosted by the All Party Pro-Life Group and organised by the newly-formed ‘Alive and Kicking’ Campaign (see attached brochure). Jensen hopes that hearing her story will persuade others to consider the rights of the unborn.
Both archbishops say they hope her testimony will help to raise the profile of abortion in Parliament and more widely.
Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor sent the following message:
“I want to assure you of my prayers for this evening’s gathering, as you listen to Gianna Jensen’s moving story. I hope very much that her witness will move this vital issue to the forefront both within Parliament and in society as a whole.”
Archbishop Rowan Williams sent the following message:“I want to send every blessing and good wishes for the occasion. I hope it will raise the profile of this crucial issue for all, inside and outside Parliament.”
