Root / Catholic Church / Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales / Working Internationally / Department of International Affairs
On behalf of the bishops of England and Wales, the Department of International Affairs works to promote peace, justice and solidarity throughout the world. To achieve this, the Department and its offices, agencies and sister organisations are in constant contact with the Holy See, the UK Government, the EU, foreign governments, national and international charities and, importantly, local Churches in the countries effected.
The Department of International Affairs and its associated agencies assist both diocesan Bishops and the Bishops' Conference in developing their policy on international affairs.
The Office for Refugee Policy (ORP) monitors information and prepares briefs on migration to enable the bishops to develop policy and respond to debates. The ORP represents bishops on the migration issue nationally and internationally and also acts as a catalyst for lay engagement in refugee work.
